How To: Clip a Design on Your Horse, Presented by Wahl
If there was ever such a thing as a horse hair artist, Natasha Nagawiecki would be one. As a groom, Wahl Xtreme Team Member, and owner of A Pampered Pony, she is no stranger to a perfect body clip and even clips incredible custom designs into coats upon request.
A few of her designs have included the New York City skyline across the length of the horse’s body, snowflakes, heart designs, and rain drops.
There’s no big secret as to how she achieves these clips besides experience, practice, and time. She clips her designs sans stencil or guide. But if you’re a beginner, there’s an easier way to give your horse an interesting design this winter without making it look like he was run over by a lawnmower.
“Personally, I do everything freehand,” said Natasha when we spoke to her at the Equine Affaire. “But I would recommend for someone who is a beginner to either get a marker and draw out a design [before you clip], or you could also get a stencil and clip around the stencil. That’s the easiest way.”
