Product Review: Ecogold Performance Ear Bonnet
It’s the last thing I put on before the bridle, before I step onto the mounting block and in the saddle. It’s a small piece of equipment, if you can call it equipment, but it keeps my horse focused and polishes off our turnout before we step into the ring for our performance. It’s those ears – dressed in a smart fly bonnet – I see for the rest of my ride.
Ecogold recently launched their own line of performance fly bonnets, and it’s a game changer for my ride and for my mental prep. The fly bonnet comes the colors Ecogold pads are known for, and they are easy to pair for cross-country or the show ring. But what makes these beautifully crafted bonnets stand out is the gold-tipped ears, only visible from the saddle. “Dipped in gold,” the description reads on Ecogold’s website. “With the Ecogold Performance Ear Bonnet, feel confident knowing you and your horse are golden today and every day.” I love that message, and every time I peer out over my horse’s gold-tipped ears, it’s a kind reminder to take a deep breath and enjoy the ride.
The ear bonnet is expertly made from the same high-tech airflow fabric Ecogold is known for, making for an exceptional, ergonomic fit with ventilation and comfort in mind. The back of the bonnet is made to lie flat across the horse’s poll to reduce the risk of bunching under the bridle. It is noise reducing thanks to added fabric in the ear panels, which are lined with stretchy lycra. The bonnet is soft, smooth and void of pressure points. It’s also easy to wash and care for at home.
The bonnet comes in 10 color combinations. The splash of color at the central point across the head makes it pop and easy to compliment with any style browband. Ecogold really thought of everything when they designed this performance bonnet. It’s truly the nicest bonnet I’ve ever used.
