Product Review: SmartPak Piper Evolution Breeches

SmartPak’s line of Piper breeches have long been a staple in my riding wardrobe. You just can’t beat the price point and all the color combinations – need I say more?

So when I saw SmartPak was expanding the Piper collection to include a new line called Piper Evolution breeches, I was thrilled to give this new option a go.

Right away, I fell in love with the soft, moisture wicking technical fabric of the Evolution line. It offers just the right amount of stretch coupled with a good amount of support. They are light and easy to wear – they mold right into place once you put them on. But the best part of the fabric has to be that it is stain resistant. Yeah, you read that right – dirt, shavings and spills will just brush right off!

The Evolution breeches are easily recognizable as Pipers with their signature contrast stitching and trim. They come in several colors too – I opted for the cool charcoal with light grey combo for my first pair. Right now the breeches come in sizes 22 to 38, but an expansion in the fall will extend the sizing through to 48 and offer a high-rise waist option.

SmartPak put these breeches to the test. They’ve been in the works for the last year, evaluated for their fit and durability in and out of the saddle.

SmartPak really took customer feedback to heart, too, when they designed the pockets in these breeches. The front pockets are much deeper than any other pair of breeches I own, easily deep enough to fit a phone and handful of treats. (The breeches have four pockets total.) They are also equipped with a contoured waistband which offers a truly flattering look. I’d say that the breeches offer a natural rise to them, coming to fit just at the wider part of the hips, or slightly below the natural waist.

I envision the Piper Evolution breeches being my go-to this summer, for sure!
