Product Review: Redingote Rain Gear

There’s nothing I hate more than slogging it around the arena in the rain.

It’s not that I’m afraid of getting wet – I just don’t like the feeling of being soaked. Nevermind having to drive home in drenched riding clothes. Luckily for me, Redingote created a solution to my problem.

The company known for the innovative – and warm – winter riding coverall now offers rain gear for specifically tailored to equestrians. I got to try out the Redingote waterproof rain suit for myself recently, and spoiler alert: it’s a game changer.

This thin-layer suit is breathable, waterproof, and comes with all the fixings a horse person will need in and out of the saddle.

It has an oversized “roll away” hood that fits over any riding helmet to keep your head dry, too. It has long zippers along the back of the calf to accommodate field boots. The suit also has a removable and adjustable stirrup strap made to keep the pant leg in place while riding, so you don’t have to worry about it bunching up.

This suit is perfect for riders who often have to battle wet and rainy barn conditions. My friends in the Pacific Northwest and the Northeast come to mind first, of course. The suit is thin and not insulated, but is roomy enough for riders to add layers underneath if it’s chilly. But it also has many areas of ventilation, from the back to the armpits, to keep you from getting too stuffy in there while you’re working.

I found the Redingote Rain Gear to be true to size, if not just a little more snug than the winter suit. It’s easy to put on and I love the cinch cord on the inside of the waist, which offers a more adjustable fit.

This suit was made with women riders in mind – it’s comfortable to wear, but also quite flattering to my shape. And I love supporting small businesses that are owned and founded by women, too.
