Product Review: NoSo Repair Patches For Horse Blankets
How many blankets do your horses destroy in any given winter season? Be honest. I’ll wait!
My 17-hand chestnut gelding makes tearing up blankets a sport every winter season. I’ve tried all the brands and all the tricks, but he’s the typical goofy guy you see in the pasture with a round naked rump in full view because he’s snapped the straps off his blanket after a good muddy roll, or rubbed his side against the fence long enough to tear through the material. Sigh.
It’s expensive replacing blankets every time he does this. But then I found a helpful solution. NoSo Patches is a brand that makes durable, waterproof patches for outdoors fabrics. Designed for camping, hiking, skiing and other all-weather gear, NoSo aims to help reduce textile waste by offering a simple and affordable solution to fixing holes and tears in otherwise still useful gear. Their large patch size – 5″x 3″ – can easily patch holes and tears in horse blanket materials.
Made in the USA, it’s clear NoSo Patches is passionate about sustainability. The patches are often made from deadstock fabrics leftover at mills that are upcycled. Unlike screen printing, NoSo uses a “dye sublimation” progress which is safe for workers, doesn’t pollute water and produces zero waste. The EPA estimates that 5% of all landfill waste comes from textiles. And while 95% of textile fabrics have the potential to be reused in some way, only 5% are. This is where NoSo Patches comes in – to help keep your winter gear useful for years to come.
The patches are super easy to apply – just peel off the back and slap the sticky side over the hole, and press firmly into the fabric. To help create a permanent seal you can use a blow dryer for 30 seconds or 15 minutes in the dryer on a low tumble cycle. But the patch will adhere to the fabric with just some sunshine. And the patches last – mine is going strong through an oddly wet El Niño season and has remained firmly in place.
For less than $20, this is just the fix I need to keep my blankets going into next season and the years after.
