Product Review: Get Lost in “Never Burn Your Moving Boxes”

This time of year, I’m always looking for a good novel to get lost in. Anything that will distract me from the stress of family, traveling, and all the feelings that generally come with the holidays. Any few minutes I can steal away to slip into a story, I will gladly take. And this year, I have just the recommendation for all the adventurous horse girls.

In “Never Burn Your Moving Boxes,” author Jolyn Young takes us along in her life as a true cowgirl, working on a Nevada ranch in her 20s. It’s everything you see in Yellowstone or Heartland but real life – the horses, the cattle, the wide open land. Jolyn writes in real drawl. She crafts touching scenes during some of the most vulnerable periods of her life. And she takes you on a ride as the unexpected happens – she falls in love – and when she chooses to leave it.

Jolyn tackles issues many women face in humble, honest ways – from the loneliness that comes with parenting, loss, addiction and making the tough decisions that can change your life. But still, Jolyn finds the humor and the bright spot in the darkness. Her memoir is brave, inspiring, and for me, it was a total page turner. I couldn’t put it down until there were no pages left – and even then, I found myself revisiting her prose for the weeks to come. My hat is off to Jolyn and the strong, true cowgirl she is.

If you’re looking for something new to read, “Never Burn Your Moving Boxes”  should be at the top of your list.
