Product Review: Beauty For Real, Makeup For Equestrians

Spoiler alert: I’m not a glam girl. Not in any shape or form. You know those “I can’t contour my makeup but...” memes, well those things were made for me. I wear makeup to the barn maybe 2% of the time – usually, because I’m getting there after having done some boring adulting stuff like sitting at my cubicle in the office all day. Otherwise my face is naked, except for some moisturizer or sunscreen.

Another embarrassing fact: Up until recently, I’d been using the same makeup – foundation, mascara, etc. – from the same company since the day my mom brought me into the department store beauty section at the mall as a teenager. That’s just who I am. But then I met Leslie, an equestrian and beauty expert. Heels Down featured her makeup brand, Beauty For Real, in a virtual trunk show during the pandemic and I bought it all.

What sold me on Beauty For Real was the affordable price point and just how quick and easy her products made the whole “getting ready” process. I’m all about a ‘less is more’ approach – slap it on and go. So if you are looking for a tried-and-true glam girl review here, that’s just not what you’re going to get. But if you’re like me, and know makeup makes a difference in the professional world, but need it be affordable and most importantly, not tedious and difficult, then keep reading.

My favorite Beauty For Real Product is the MVP tinted moisturizer and concealer. The moisturizer is SPF 25, and most days I just wear that alone. But when you want to be fancy, the concealer is inside the cap of the moisturizer, and it has a mirror fixated on it. Brilliant! The moisturizer is easy to match skin tone (thanks to samples you can order) and it lasts all day without getting greasy. A + from me.

I’m also a huge fan of the the blush and glo highlighter, one stick with different products on each end. It offers great coverage (a little goes a long way) and I find that the colors are tasteful with easy blend-ability.

I also own the fleet of Beauty For Real eye makeup: the mascara is hands down my favorite (waterproof, never clumps, lasts forever). Both the liquid and gel eyeliners (including in various colors) are so easy to use, even this novice (me) can paint a quality cat eye all by myself. Add in some stick and liquid shimmer eye shadow, and I have everything I need and barely spent $100.

Beauty For Real is honestly a blessing. It’s one less girl thing I have to think about. Its affordable, ships fast and I can count on the products to be of high quality and get the job done. Plus, they were designed by an equestrian. What more could you want in your makeup?
