Heels Down Happy Hour Podcast 87: Work-Life-Horse Balance

Managing a career, your family, friends and horses all at the same time is a serious balancing act. Two of our guests tonight do all of that, and launched their own businesses. This week, we’re sipping on some tequila and will be discussing – you guessed it – underwear again. Thanks for tuning in.

Special guests:

Sara Ladley is the owner and creative director of Hunt Club, a boutique lifestyle brand taking on the mission of combining traditional hunt-seat equestrian style with technical fabrics and modern designs. Since its start in 2014, Hunt Club has grown from humble roots in a college dorm room to an international business supplying thoughtfully designed competition and casual riding apparel to horsewomen everywhere. When not working behind the scenes at Hunt Club, Sara competes in the amateur hunters and tends to her ever-growing houseplant jungle.

Jessica Andrews is the founder of Eques Pantes. Developed by an equestrian for equestrians, Eques Pante riding knickers are built to meet all our needs, in and out of the saddle. Crafted of EquesPant Blend, a proprietary, sustainably made performance textile, Eques Pante is proudly made in the USA using ethical, environmentally conscious practices.

More about our hosts:

Jessica Payne is a 32-year-old international event rider who is rarely seen without her long-haired chihuahua under her arm. She was born in London, Ontario but grew up in Franklin, Tenn. and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Animal Science. She once lost the tip of her pinky finger clipping her 4* horse, and husband Doug says she can “talk to anyone including a wall….and they will like it!”

Ellie Woznica is a 22-year-old freelance book designer and horse trainer because she couldn’t choose which career to pursue and her mom said she wouldn’t make the decision for her. She grew up showing the hunters and jumpers, but in university, she learned to ride western and fell in love with reining.

Justine Griffin is an award winning 32-year-old journalist who has written about everything from horses to high profile CEOs to her ovaries. (She donated her eggs once.) Two things she loves the most? Whippet puppies and cheese. Justine is a firm believer in unicorns and feminism. So take everything she says with a grain of salt.
