Meet The Judges: Spark Awards – Art & Design
The 2021 Heels Down Spark Awards are officially open to creative individuals making their mark in the equestrian industry.
The Spark Awards is an international competition for inspiring individuals to recognize the creative talent brewing in the horse world. Hosted by Heels Down Media, the Spark Awards are open to equestrians, entrepreneurs, writers, designers and more – basically anyone with a cool idea that touches the equestrian industry in some way.
The winners will be selected by a panel of expert judges (75%) and a public vote in the Heels Down Spark, our daily equestrian newsletter (25%). Apply by May 30. To get all the contest details, click here.
The art and design category includes all various mediums, i.e. sculpture, painting, graphic design, textile art, woodworking, etc. Only photo/digital submissions accepted. Image specifics 1200 px max across the long side, 140 DPI.

Art & Design
Juliet R. Harrison is an award-winning photographer who received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1991. Specializing in traditional hand-printed Black and White photographs, Juliet Harrison captured images of horses for more than 20 years. Her work was shown in numerous exhibitions across the United States, and has been published in various magazines. Ms. Harrison has published several books of her work, including White Horses: From the Literal to The Sublime, Equiscape: A Modernist Nude, Track Life in Saratoga Springs and Track Life: Images and Words. In addition to creating her own work, Ms. Harrison was the director of the Ex Arte Equinus International Equine Art Competition for 7 years, sponsored by Art Horse Magazine. In January 2014 she opened the Equis Art Gallery, in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York, where she represents over 30 contemporary equine artists from all over the world. Andrea Walker is a design professional who has been working in marketing strategy for over 10 years. She’s worked for major fitness brands, including Oxygen Yoga & Fitness as well as been a part of the Heels Down Media team since its inception. A lifetime horse person, Andrea currently resides in Alberta where her and her daughter have reining horses. Find her at andreawalker.ca.
Mary Campbell is a designer, painter, and illustrator. She has worked with some of the leading firms in the Fortune 500 to create relevant and innovative design and brand identities. Her clients include Procter and Gamble, McDonald’s, Emory University, The Coca Cola Company, SunTrust Bank, Anisa International, Georgia Pacific, Newell Rubbermaid Corporation, Intercontinental Exchange, Federal Express, Carlsberg Group, Kimberly Clark and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She currently takes limited freelance projects and owns her own company, Mare Modern Goods, an equestrian brand for gifts, apparel and accessories. A graduate of Elon University and The Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary has been a featured artist and speaker at Ole Miss University, and numerous galleries throughout the southeast. Her work has been featured on The Dieline, a website dedicated to the progress of the package design industry, and her work for Emory University was recently awarded a Silver Award in the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards.
