Product Review: Zero Proof Horse Treats Carrot Cosmo

There are lots of ways to pamper your horse. But I’ve always thought my horses appreciated a sweet treat the most. How does the saying go? The way to the heart is through the stomach, after all.

My favorite new brand of horse treats is Zero Proof Horse Treats, made of distiller grains from Kentucky, the bourbon capital. But don’t worry, the treats don’t have any alcohol in them.

Earlier this year, Zero Proof Horse Treats announced a brand new flavor to their lineup: Carrot Cosmo.

Zero Proof was able to combine the flavor of carrot with a hint of rosemary in this new offering, and I can officially say it’s my horses’ new favorite. Every bag of treats from Zero Proof is made of all-natural ingredients, which includes those distillers grains, oats, alfalfa and a touch of molasses. Every ingredient in each treat is grown in Kentucky.

And fun fact: These treats are manufactured by the same mill that has produced feed for 15 of the last 20 Kentucky Derby winners. How cool is that?

For those who have metabolic horses or ones with other dietary needs, you can feel good that Zero Proof Horse Treats has less sugar than you’d think. The nonstructural carbohydrate levels are comparable to a controlled starch feed.

These small nugget-sized treats are perfect to keep in your tack trunk or trailer, and make great gifts for your barn friends or even your trainer. Plus there are now four fun cocktail-themed flavors to choose from.

Outside of Carrot Cosmo, the originals are the classic Old Fashioned (with some citrus notes), an Apple Martini and a Mint Julep. My Thoroughbreds were also big fans of the Old Fashioned, but you really can’t go wrong with any flavor.

The size of the treat is perfect – you can slip a handful in your pocket to reward your horse while working on the ground, or even as they come out of the show ring. And they won’t crumble and leave behind a mess.

Zero Proof also makes dog and cat treats that are just as delicious.  Heels Down Happy Hour Podcast listeners also have access to free shipping and a free gift when they use the promo code “HEELSDOWN” at check out. Enjoy. And cheers!
