Finding the right pair of field boots is a little like a Cinderella story. Riders can go to great lengths to find the perfect fit at the right price.
There certainly is no shortage of options – there are so may types of tall boots to choose from on both ends of the quality and price spectrum. The key is striking the right balance between the two.
As my show pair of black tall boots were nearing the end of their life (there are only so many times I can glue pieces back together), I started to review my options. I decided to give SmartPak’s Eliza Tall Field Boots a try because I’m already a SmartPak customer and have had great luck with their other in-house brands when it comes to other types of tack.
The Eliza Tall Field Boots come in two color options and a variety of sizes. I was impressed by the leather quality right off the bat – the boots are soft and supple, but also durable. The Eliza boot also has a memory foam footbed, which once you try that you’ll never go back. Trust me.
The biggest problem I had with my last pair of tall boots was the zippers broke multiple times, resulting in several trips to my local cobbler. Toward the end there, he had to get pretty creative in trying to repair them. The Eliza Tall Field Boots have a strong stretch panel in the back of the boot which absolves me that problem. Plus it makes the boots that much more comfortable to wear. I can actually move in them!
If I had one complaint, it’s that the sizing offers a wide and regular calf, but not a tall and regular height. As someone with a long leg, I always appreciate a tall sizing option. Luckily for me, these boots still fit my leg just fine.
The YKK zipper on the back of the boots is heavy duty and meant to last. All in all, these are a great pair of boots and you truly cannot beat the price. I’m already drooling over the brown color option for my next pair…
