All hail the queens! It was a show of girl power as USA’s Jessica Springsteen and her mare Davendy S beat out the boys in the CSI5* Falcon Stakes at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. On the legendary grounds of the Windsor Castle in England, Springsteen jumped fast and clean with a time of 42.28 seconds, a time more than 2 seconds faster than the 2nd place finisher William Funnell, who crossed the timers in 44.60 seconds.
Springsteen also earned herself over 10,000€ in this 1.50m class. All hail Queen Jessica!
A thrilled Springsteen had this to say following their win: “[Davendy S] is unbelievable, she jumped great. It was definitely an advantage to be towards the end but she’s so competitive, she always goes out and wants to win so she’s a lot of fun to ride. It’s so much fun here at Windsor, there’s such an amazing atmosphere with the crowds, it’s one of my favourite shows.”
Only 8 horses were clear in the first round of competition, which paved the way for the fastest four-faulters Billy Twomey and Ben Maher to have their shot at some prize money.
It appears that luck was on Great Britain’s side in this class, as the country’s riders comprised 5 out of the top 10 finishers with William Funnel (2nd), Michael Whitaker (4th), Ben Maher (5th), Scott Brash (7th) and Michael Whitaker in 10th place.
