In the Magazine: Jonty Evans and Cooley Rorkes Drift’s Fairy Tale Ending

Event rider Jonty Evans and his horse, Cooley Rorkes Drift, made worldwide headlines in 2017 for a reason most wouldn’t expect.

In July, Jonty faced being separated from his beloved Rio Olympic mount after original owner, Fiona Elliott, made the decision to sell. Thanks to an impressive display of worldwide generosity, Jonty was able to purchase the horse privately by unusual means – a successful crowdfunding campaign.

“It’s essentially a Cinderella story,” said Jonty. “The fact that he stayed (with me) sort of made everything complete. Now we have the chance to finish the story.”
