Smart Money: Overspending Is A Bad Idea. Here’s What You Can Do To Fix It

The enemy to being a good saver is being a big spender. Too much eating, too much stress, too much spending takes a tool on your emotional and financial well being.

Intentionally not going shopping for a week or choosing to cook at home opposed to eating out can make all the difference. Why not invite your friends over for an evening of goal setting and show planning for the next year? This is a way of embracing the idea of spending less, when previously you would have gone out to the movies or dinner.

Here are some ways to spend less: vow not to go shopping for a certain number of days, make coffee or tea at home opposed to going to Starbucks, cook meals at home and pack your meals for school (and check out Stable & Spice for inspiration)! My favorite? Just spend as much spare time at the barn as you can. Even on days you are not riding, enjoying grooming and taking care of your horse is essentially free (assuming you already pay board or leasing fees)!

Do you have any tips for spending less? If you decide to have a goal setting and show planning party with your friends, or another activity that doesn’t involve spending, share your experience with #smartmoneyhdm.
