Editor’s Note: Bloodlines is a new series where Dutch journalist Adriana Van Tilburg explores the bloodlines and breeding behind some of the world’s top and emerging performance horses.
The world’s top riders cannot be top riders without their top mounts. Much like their riders, these elite horses have a story of their own.
Let’s take a closer look at the top horse of Laura Kraut, the fascinating Holsteiner mare Zeremonie. She put in a stellar performance at CHIO Aachen 2017 with two clear rounds in the Nations Cup of Aachen and was fourth in the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen. Zeremonie also was named the horse of the week in the Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking list during Aachen.
Zeremonie was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. This is in the Northern state of Germany, where the country connects to Denmark. This region has its own studbook, which is known as the Holsteiner Verband. The horses that are coming from this studbook have a history of going on to be top show jumping horses. Just to name a few: the exceptional mare Fein Cera who is American show jumper Peter Wylde’s mount, Casall who is ridden by the Swedish rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, Cristallo with Richard Spooner, Carlsson vom Dach with Will Simpson and In Style with Ian Millar, all came from this part of Germany.
